Dragons suffer injury blow to Morgan and Henson

Dragons’ Wales centre Tyler Morgan and 33-times Wales capped Gavin Henson have both been ruled out by injury.

Both players sat out Sunday’s Guinness Pro14 match against Benetton Treviso last weekend and scans yesterday for both players have confirmed they will face an extended spell on the sidelines, with Morgan, 22, suffering a Lisfranc (mid-foot) injury which requires surgery, whilst Henson has a hamstring tendon injury.

“The injury is very frustrating for Tyler,” said Head Coach Bernard Jackman, “he’s a super talented player who is really passionate about the Dragons and he was in good form getting named in the Wales squad before injury at the Ospreys in the Pro14 and then came back after a lot of hard work and in a pretty innocuous moment in training last week he came down and hurt his foot. He’s under the knife this afternoon and we wish him well for a speedy recovery.

“He’s mentally tough so hopefully he will come back strong and although he’ll miss the end of this season we will hopefully have him for a good chunk of pre-season and that next year he gets a clear run of it.

“With Gavin we were in a fitness – game situation and he felt a little twinge so decided to take himself off straight away. He wasn’t in serious pain all week but to make sure he was alright we got him scanned and thankfully he hadn’t trained again as the injury could have become much worse, but the specialist still thinks it will be 6-8 weeks which makes it tough for him to come back this season, but at least he doesn’t need surgery.”
