BACK TO SCHOOL A GREAT SUCCESS

Dragons stars passed on their coaching tips to potential stars of the future on Tuesday as they went back to school as a key part of the region’s Outreach Programme.

The Dragons school visits in the region have been hailed a great success. The clinics gave the opportunity of training alongside today’s rugby stars to primary school pupils in the region, as the whole squad took an afternoon out of their training schedule to run coaching clinics.

Over 300 children from surrounding schools attended the sessions in Rhymney and Abertillery on Tuesday afternoon

WRU Regional community manager Gerry Roberts said that the pupils got a great deal out of the afternoon.
“The feedback we have had from the schools has been fantastic, he said. The players got really involved in the games and the pupils really enjoyed themselves.

"These programmes are vital in promoting rugby in the region and hopefully we have given encouragement to a couple of the stars of the future.”

The children played rugby-related games as well as having passing lessons from ace centre Ashley Smith and a kicking session with Martyn Thomas before an autograph session with their heroes.

The Outreach Programme, which was launched in 2003, is designed to bring rugby in general and the Dragons in particular to every corner of the region.
