Gonzalo Bertranou was born in Mendoza, Argentina and began his career with Los Tordos in the Torneo del Oeste a regional competition in Argentina.
Bertranou became a regular for Argentina Jaguares in 2013 and became captain of the side in 2016. His consistent performances secured himself a place in the Jaguares Super Rugby squad from 2016 to his departure in 2020.
Bertranou earned his first international cap for Argentina against Paraguay on 23 May 2015 in the South American Rugby Championship in Asunción, where Los Pumas beat Paraguay 71-7.
As of February 2021, Bertranou has earned 26 international caps with his most recent outing coming against Australia in the autumn. He was also involved in the famous victory over New Zealand in November 2020 as Los Pumas defeated the All Blacks 25-15.
Bertranou moved to Wales and joined Dragons in February 2021 on a short-term deal to the end of the 2020/2021 season, but following a successful spell the Argentinian extended his deal and committed his future to Dragons ahead of the 2021/2022 campaign.
