Dee: Victory all important on milestone match

27/04/2024

Hooker Elliot Dee insists that only a victory is important as he prepares to celebrate a big milestone in his illustrious Dragons RFC career.

Front row star Dee will make his 150th appearance for the Men of Gwent when he leads the team out at Rodney Parade to face Connacht tonight (kick-off 8pm).

The 30-year-old is only the third hooker and 12th player to hit the figure – following Steve Jones (180 games) and Hugh Gustafson (151 games).

But the Newbridge-born ace – who recently celebrated his 50th cap for Wales – is hunting for team success over personal milestones.

“It's been nice to hit milestones, but I think it'd be even nicer to get a good performance and get the win that we need,” he said.

“I was hoping to reach (the 150) it last year, but with a couple of operations and a couple of injuries, I just ran out of time.

“I’ve been waiting a while, but it's been a nice couple of months, a couple of milestones in the bag, and something I targeted earlier on this season.

“I made Dai (Flanagan) aware that they were goals that I had and it's nice to finally get to them.

“You usually find that you're waiting so long to hit a milestone like that. Then, as soon as you do hit it, you're looking for the next one.

“I'm going to try and take it all in. It'd be nice to have a good performance, a good team display, and to do it at Rodney Parade.”
