O'Brien ruled out with injury

09/11/2023

Angus O’Brien is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering an arm fracture in the BKT United Rugby Championship clash with Munster Rugby.

O’Brien was forced off in the opening minutes of the league game at Musgrave Park.

The 27-year-old – who has made 88 appearances for the Men of Gwent over two spells – will have surgery this weekend before commencing his rehabilitation and recovery process.

Head Coach Dai Flanagan said: “Angus will have surgery this week on his forearm and will be out for a little while.

“It’s a huge shame for Angus. He is hardly ever injured and is an important player for us so we will obviously miss him.

“It's an opportunity for others. Will Reed will get a chance now and Cai Evans will there back him up. We need players to put their hands up.

“Rodrigo (Martinez) is going to be a little while longer with his calf, but it is not as bad as we first feared.

“Leon (Brown) has calf niggle that he picked up with us and we will look after him.

“Ollie (Griffiths) is also on the mend. He won’t be far off in the coming weeks.”
