Flashback: Prydie brace as Benetton beaten

06/10/2022

Ahead of Sunday's clash with Benetton Rugby in the BKT United Rugby Championship, we take a #Throwback Thursday to March 2015 as we faced the Italians at Stadio Monigo...

Benetton 17 Dragons 32

Tom Prydie scored two late tries to help Dragons see off a fightback and record a first league win in Treviso. The wing also kicked three conversions and two penalties in a man-of-the-match display.

Jonathan Evans broke the early deadlock and Hallam Amos also raced away. Enrico Bacchin's try, Jayden Hayward's kicking and a penalty try brought Treviso back, but Dragons held their nerve and Prydie did the rest.

The Welsh region had previously only won at Stadio Monigo in the European Cup in 2007.

Lyn Jones' side built a 17-0 lead by the break, inspired by the Evans snipe that broke Treviso's early resistance.

Prydie converted and added a penalty before Amos underlined his burgeoning talent with a classy finish from long range.

Prydie added the conversion and a penalty early in the second period. But while Jones will have been pleased by the manner in which the Dragons took the initiative, their resolve in the face of Treviso's spirited comeback may have been more satisfying.

Centre Bacchin earned the hosts' first reward, converted by full-back Hayward. When Treviso's pack demolished Dragons' scrum to earn a penalty try, the momentum was firmly going the hosts' way. Hayward's conversion and a penalty put them three points behind.

But after taking their punishment, Dragons dished out some more of their own as Prydie went over for his first try. He missed the conversion, but made amends by winning a foot-race for his second try and knocking over the extras from the touchline.
