Basham starts recovery road

20/10/2022

Forwards Coach Mefin Davies has backed back row Taine Basham to bounce back from the elbow injury suffered in the derby clash with Cardiff Rugby.

Basham was forced off in the first half of the clash at Cardiff Arms Park with a dislocated elbow.

Davies admitted the timing – ahead of the Wales squad announcement – was cruel on Basham, but has backed the young tyro to make a successful return when ready.

“Unfortunately, Taine is injured and out,” said Davies.

“It is unlucky for Taine because he has been playing well and had started the season well. You do feel for him.

“He had a big shop window and opportunity playing against Thomas Young, who is also playing well.

“It was a good contest and I just feel for Taine not being able to fully use that opportunity.

“He doesn’t need surgery which is good news,” he added.

“He is in good hands, and he will follow the right protocols and get back when he is ready.

“It’s not as bad as first thought. It is back in; everything is settled and now it is about him taking the right time.”
