Positive Waino ready to impress: Ryan

03/03/2022

Boss Dean Ryan expects Wales international Aaron Wainwright to impress and put a marker down in the United Rugby Championship (URC) clash with Munster Rugby at Thomond Park on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 5.15pm).

Wainwright has returned to the region this week from Six Nations duty with Wales to get valuable URC game time under his belt.

And the Director of Dragons Rugby has been delighted by the back row’s attitude and determination to grasp the opportunity as preparations continue for the trip to Limerick this weekend.

“Wales have the game coming up next Friday so Waino needs to impress, needs to play and he’s come back really positive,” said Ryan.

“We have had conversations with him about getting him in the front end of the game and get him going.

“He will then go back into the national squad and hopefully get an opportunity over the next couple of weeks to get on the field.

“He's got real clarity from the Welsh squad about things they see him working on,” added Ryan.

“He’s been an international since he was 20-years-old and sometimes you can feel the scrutiny of international rugby. It doesn't allow you to make mistakes.

“I’ve talked to him about coming back, feeling a bit freer in what he does, and at the same push himself in the areas they want to see improvement in.

“It’s about him using the opportunity to come back here and continue to improve and I’m sure he will take that opportunity.”

Meanwhile, Ryan has confirmed that centre Jack Dixon and Jordan Williams are both in consideration for the URC clash as they bid to return from injury.
