Four Dragons set for World School Sevens

08/12/2022

A quartet of Dragons are set to represent Wales 7s Urdd in an annual tournament that showcases the very best Under-18 talent from around the globe.

Amy Williams, Katie Bevans, Lucy Isaac, and Natalia Barnes from Dragons Academy have been named in the Wales 7s Urdd squad to play in the World Schools Sevens in New Zealand.

The four players will jet out on Friday, December 9 to feature in the tournament at Pakuranga Rugby Club in New Zealand on December 17 and 18.

The World Schools Sevens has been in existence since 2016 and has featured over one hundred teams over the last six years, including teams from USA, Canada, Japan, Fiji, Australia and New Zealand.

The vision of the tournament is to deliver a high-level professional event that provides players, coaches and management with a life changing experience in New Zealand and provides an opportunity for the players to showcase their talents on a global stage. The week includes a cultural evening, an official welcome and warm up games.

Cerys Hale, Women’s Pathway Manager at Dragons RFC, said: “We’re all delighted that Amy, Katie, Lucy and Natalia will get the opportunity to travel to New Zealand prior to Christmas to play in the tournament.

“Representing Wales is always a huge honour and I’m sure all four players will learn and benefit from such a positive rugby experience the other side of the world.”
