Flanagan: We'll manage return of key duo

01/12/2022

Head Coach Dai Flanagan has vowed to manage the return of key duo Leon Brown and Ashton Hewitt to ensure they hit the ground running with Dragons RFC.

Tighthead Brown has been out of action since missing the end of last season with a shoulder issue.

Wing Hewitt made his return from a serious knee injury against Munster and the Sharks, only to suffer a blow to his right ankle that needed surgery.

Both have travelled to South Africa for a BKT United Rugby Championship double-header and EPCR Challenge Cup opener.

But discussing their return to action, Flanagan is keen to ensure that both men are in the right place to make the maximum impact.

“I will always do what is best for the player,” pledged Flanagan. “I am Head Coach, but I have always put the person first, treating individuals fairly.

“When these boys come back we want them back properly.

“Ashton has taken a big step forward this week and may make this weekend.

“Leon is still making progress and is a maybe, because he is only nine weeks post-op.

“It's important that he is around us here because we can give him the best treatment with the best physios. We will see where we get him over the next few weeks.”
