Ryan: Big window for Brown to prosper

26/11/2021

Boss Dean Ryan has welcomed the return of Wales international prop Leon Brown as he prepares to make his first appearance of the season on Saturday.

Brown, 25, has been named among the replacements as Dragons prepare to face Edinburgh in the United Rugby Championship in Newport (kick-off 5.15pm).

And Director of Rugby Ryan is thrilled to see his front row ace back in the mix and working his way back to his best.

"We are looking to integrate Leon back into playing for us," said Ryan. "It has been a significant time loss in terms of his injury, so I think everybody is delighted to see him back in full training.

"We would look at this next six to 10 weeks as being a real opportunity for him to go back and learn and find that form back through playing.

"What we see in Leon, at the moment, is huge potential. This next phase of games is going to be a big window for Leon to gather some experiences. I hope those will propel him back into the Welsh squad."

Meanwhile, Ryan has also reported positive news over back row forward Ross Moriarty after successful surgery on the shoulder injury sustained against New Zealand in the Autumn Nation Series.

"Ross is good," said Ryan. "He had a significant injury and has gone through that and had the surgery and is now on that road back.

"He was fantastic for us before the autumn internationals and the best I had seen him in terms of leadership and form.

"We have to cope without him now and have a lot of competition in the back row, but Ross offers something different and we have to get people to fill that space.

"I am not sure of the exact timelines, but he will definitely be around that January window. I doubt he will make the derbies but we will see. Ross will be challenging every timeline he has got so we will see."
