Owen: Inaccuracy cost us in home loss

16/05/2021

Centre Aneurin Owen admitted inaccuracies had cost Dragons as they slipped to defeat to Ospreys – but vowed the team would learn from derby day defeat in the Guinness PRO14 Rainbow Cup.

Star performer Owen was named the Guinness Player-of-the-Match in a 42-26 defeat at Rodney Parade after a stunning solo display.

But the talented 20-year-old admitted the award meant little in a losing effort.

“We are disappointed with the performance,” he said.

“We started this tournament off well against Scarlets and I felt we should have won last week as well (against Cardiff Blues).

“Inaccuracies have costs us again this week. At the breakdown and kick-offs, we just let them back into the game too much.

“We’ve always challenged ourselves as a group and want to get better. “Now we have got to start turning some good performances into wins.

“We’ll look at what we did wrong and what we did right. We’ll look to put it right immediately.

On his award, Owen added: “Ultimately, I’m bothered about the result and we didn’t win today. That is my only focus.

“We want to be winning games so the fact we didn’t is what stays with me. We want to be better than that.”
