Players from the Dragons ALLSTARS – our successful mixed ability team – have successfully walked the equivalent of Newport to New York and back as part of an epic challenge!
Our ALLSTARS squad – made up of both men and women – was split into teams of three (with some very unusual names) for the initiative in a bid to keep friendly competition and spirits high during lockdown.
Each group was given the task of counting how many steps they made over a six-week period – and they duly clocked up over 13million steps as they put their best foot forward.
The team of ‘Ceri, Rice and Chips’ ultimately took top honours with 2,658,446 steps.
The steps have now been calculated and are the equivalent of walking from Rodney Parade to The Liberty NYC in New York – where New York Welsh, the sponsor of the ALLSTARS, hold meetings - and back again!
Gareth Sullivan, Dragons Community Inclusion Officer, said: “We organised the challenge to keep players involved in the set-up and keep camaraderie high and the results have been absolutely amazing.
“All the teams have stepped up and in total they have clocked up an incredible 13,688,008 steps between them – with just 6,000 steps between the top two teams.
“Congratulations to all the mini teams for getting so involved and we look forward to welcoming all the players back to Rodney Parade, when it is safe to do so.”
