Dragons Community have teamed up with Sporting Memories to go online and help people everywhere to stay connected and have fun – using memories of sport.
Sporting Memories Wales use the power of sport to engage local people living with dementia, depression or are socially isolated.
The Dragons Community team launched a new weekly club at Rodney Parade earlier his year, in conjunction with County in the Community and Sporting Memories, to promote the mental and physical wellbeing of people over 50.
Weekly volunteer-led clubs used archive images of sport, memorabilia and news reports to trigger fond memories of playing or watching sport.
As well as reminiscing about sport and allowing group members to tell their stories through sporting memories, the clubs included exercise and the playing of accessible sports to increase physical activity levels of beneficiaries.
Unfortunately, the club was postponed during the COVID-19 lockdown – but is now retuning this month and going online!
In normal times the clubs are run for older adults in local communities. But, right now, the sessions online are open to everyone as they chat and remember sport and ignite positive memories.
Join the FREE Newport online Zoom meeting every Thursday between 11.15am and 12.15pm – starting on July 23.
