Davies expects stubborn Enisei test

15/01/2020

Fly half Sam Davies admits he expects a ‘stubborn’ test against Russian side Enisei-STM as Dragons look to book a place in the quarter-finals of the European Challenge Cup.

Dragons go into Friday night’s game at Rodney Parade (kick-off 8pm) knowing a bonus point win should be enough to secure a last eight spot.

And Davies belives Dragons must stick to processes and be patient to claim maximum points on home soil.

“We know this Russian team can be a stubborn team and they are a very physical team so they can be tough to play against at times, but if we stay on our script I’m pretty sure we can get through,” he said.

“The danger is everyone expects us to run in the tries. “If we win and get four tries we should go through to the quarter-finals so we’re not looking to chuck the ball around too much early on.

“We’ll stick to our processes and we’ll do what’s been getting us wins in the derbies to start off with.

“Hopefully as the game breaks up a little bit later on that’s maybe when we can run in some tries and get our qualification.”
