Dragons wait on Harris fitness news

25/02/2020

Boss Dean Ryan has revealed prop Brok Harris is a doubt for the home clash with Toyota Cheetahs – but remains more optimistic over hooker Richard Hibbard.

Experienced front row ace Harris was forced off in the first half of the Guinness PRO14 defeat to Glasgow Warriors.

And Ryan admitted he was now awaiting medical updates on his availability ahead of Saturday’s clash with the South Africans (kick-off 5.15pm).

“Brok has an injury to his pectoral muscle which is a concern,” said Ryan. “We will see what the scan says, but it is a potential big loss for us. We don’t know if he misses the game yet.”

Hooker Hibbard also missed the game in Scotland through injury, but Ryan remains more confident over his return to action.

“He is getting closer,” said Ryan. “He is around training now, whicn is great to see, but whether his return is this week or not, we will wait and see."

Looking ahead to the return to home soil for the first league game since early January, Ryan admitted his young team would need to face the challenge head-on.

“Home games are always important and we have good form at home. We want to build on that,” he said.

“This is a tough period for us with some of our senior payers away. It exaggerates how young we are.

“That is a challenge for this group, not just relying on those five or six internationals, but growing that young group underneath.

“Experiences like the weekend in Glasgow are crucial to bring home and put into fruition.

“The problems we had last week around drive and field position are coming again this week. We have got to make sure that we sort it.”
