Head Coach Ceri Jones has praised the ‘attitude and application’ of his Dragons on the tour to South Africa.
Dragons have travelled to South Africa for a two-week trip that includes fixtures with Isuzu Southern Kings and Toyota Cheetahs.
After an opening week in Port Elizabeth, Dragons have jetted into Cape Town this week for preparations ahead of the game with Cheetahs at altitude in Bloemfontein.
And Jones has spoken about the way his squad has tackled the trip in the closing weeks of the Guinness PRO14 campaign.
“It’s been an excellent trip and I’ve been thrilled by the attitude and application so far,” he said. “We had a tight group of boys before the tour, but if anything we have come closer by spending this time together.
“Everyone is enjoying each other’s company, the players have worked exceptionally hard late in the season and we’ve been lucky to use some great facilities.
“It’s all set up perfectly for us and it’s allowed us to get a lot of work done before these final few games of the campaign."
Meanwhile, Jones has joked that a small corner of Cape Town has turned Welsh this week with the Ospreys sharing the same hotel in advance of the weekend’s action.
However, Jones added it was a good chance to share thoughts on their South African hosts as well as seeing some familiar faces.
“We actually have the Ospreys staying in our team hotel in Cape Town so there is the opportunity to exchange thoughts on our South African hosts and the games over here,” he said.
“We keep bumping into each other around the hotel and there are plenty of smiles – it’s a good environment and nice to see some familiar faces so far away from home.
“We’ve taken the decision not to train with them, as they are a day ahead of us in terms of preparation, but we are both using the excellent training facilities at Western Province to get ready for the next round of games. There is certainly a little slice of Wales in Cape Town at the moment.”
