Tovey – the record points scorer for the region – started the game at Kingspan Stadium after his permit move this week from Cross Keys.

The 29-year-old, who also had spells with Edinburgh Rugby and Cardiff Blues, slotted a 16thminute penalty to move ahead of Argentine ace Felipe Contepomi in the scoring charts.

Tovey is now just 57 points behind Ireland legend Ronan O’Gara in the top ten – the only other players currently active in the Guinness PRO14 in the top ten are Ian Keatley and Johnny Sexton.
