Dragons to continue to monitor Tovey

Head Coach Bernard Jackman has revealed Dragons will continue to look at Jason Tovey in training as they assess options fly half.

Tovey - the region's record points scorer - was last week part of squad preparations for the European Challenge Cup home clash with Northampton Saints.

After the home defeat to Saints, Jackman admitted Tovey - currently playing for Cross Keys - would continue to train with the team ahead of the Guinness PRO14 trip to Ulster Rugby.

“We’ve got Arwel (Robson) and Gavin (Henson) injured and Jacob (Botica) is still adapting to the speed of pro rugby, which we expected,” said Jackman.

"We have got a guy who has kicked 1,600 points in pro rugby on our doorstep and he wants a shot; he trained with us last week and looks great.

"We need to pick whoever can help us win games and it was good to have a look at him last week and see where he is fitness-wise.

"He can game manage and is a talented player, so we will definitely look at him over the next few weeks.

"We have no choice at the moment because we are so light with Jordan Williams covering 10, and he is a key guy for us in the back three."

Jackman also backed current No.10 Josh Lewis to continue to progress.

“Josh is a great kid with loads of talent, but he is ten for a region and there is a lot of pressure on that. It’s a big ask,” said Jackman.

“Show me a ten who has not had a bad patch. Unfortunately for Josh it’s hard to force his way into the team and he is going through that process now.

“We believe in him, we think he is a really good talent and remember he is playing with a lot of boys who haven’t played a lot together. We believe him and will back him.”
