Dragons must thrive on Clermont clash - Cudd

Back row Nic Cudd has vowed Dragons will be positive and look to thrive on the big match atmosphere when they travel to France to face Clermont Auvgerne on Saturday (kick-off 1pm GMT).

Clermont have swept all before them in the European Challenge Cup this season and sit top of Pool 1 with maximum points after three games.

The French giants are also proudly at the summit of the Top14 and are unbeaten in all competitions at the intimidating Stade Marcel Michelin this season.

However, Cudd insists Dragons must go to France with a positive outlook and not be overawed by the challenge ahead.

“We will go out there and be positive and give it a good go,” said Cudd, who has made 128 appearances for Dragons.

“The fixture list is not easy at the moment and none of them are easy games, but we’ve got to thrive on the challenge.

“We will have the Wales boys back and they are quality players and can help improve the team.

“To be fair to the boys who went to Northampton, they put in a good showing and whatever team we send to France we will go out to be positive and look to put a good performance in.

“Everyone wants to play in the game. It will be great to experience that atmosphere and to play against some of the top players in the world.”

Cudd admits Dragons were left disappointed by the score against Northampton Saints last weekend and a failure to be more clinical.

“It was disappointing to lose by that margin, but there were improvements from the Leinster game,” he said.

“There were patches of play when we played well. In the first half we had some territory and didn’t come away with points.

“If we were more clinical in the first half it might have been different. But they are a strong team, they were far more clinical than us.

“We have to take the positives and take the into Clermont. Then, when we come back, we have three big derby games and we need to be firing.”
