Tata Steel in the Community

We are delighted to announce that our long term community partner, Tata Steel will be supporting the Newport Gwent Dragons Community for another year.

The support will help the community team achieve their annual target of engaging with over 20,000 young people from all corners of the region via numerous innovative sporting, social and education activities.

Dragons Community Manager, Mike Sage, Community Officer, Janice Chappell and newly appointed TACKLE Project Coordinator, Matt Williams make up the community team and are excited by the continued support which will enable them to make a real positive impact throughout the region.

This season, the 16 year long standing, Gateway Schools Tag Rugby finals will again be played at Rodney Parade in front of a bumper crowd at half time during the final match of the season to give schools and their pupils an experience of a lifetime. The finals day will have a special feel to them as Tata have invested in a new Trophy and Shield, as they become, ‘The Phil James Memorial Trophy’ and ‘Shield’ in memory of our late great Education Officer, Mr. Phil James to cement his legacy at Rodney Parade.

Community Manager, Mike Sage commented, “We are delighted to continue the great partnership with Tata Steel who are very proactive in the community and share our values of positively engaging with young people and providing them with many inspiring opportunities”.

“This partnership isn’t only about getting Children active” says Nia Singleton, Community Liaison Manager Wales for Tata Steel, “it’s also about motivating youngsters to achieve their potential. We really value our partnership as I can see that they’re really having a positive impact on the wider community”
