Dragons DoR believes Morgan can go all the way

Newport Gwent Dragons Director of Rugby Lyn Jones believes that young centre Tyler Morgan has a big future ahead of him.

The 20-year-old centre was named by Wales head coach Warren Gatland to start for Wales in the Rugby World Cup quarter-final against South Africa this weekend.

Morgan has made 23 appearances for the Men of Gwent and has also starred in the Wales U20s campaign, before moving on to make two appearances for the national team during the 2015 RWC.

After Tyler Morgan was named in the match day squad, Lyn Jones commented: “Nothing fazes him - The bigger the challenge, the better he plays.

“He has huge respect for his opponents, but at the same time he wants to get one over on them and he goes full out to win that little individual battle.

“Because of his age he wants to go and play hard and have a go at his opposite number."

Jones added: “He has fighting qualities, he’s a tough young lad and he is prepared to go the extra mile to win his personal battles.

“It is all about crossing that white line and being confident to show what you can do and he can do that. He is a confident fella.

“He is still a young man and he has got lots to learn, but he has got all the bits to become a great player.

“Warren Gatland has seen some X-Factor in Tyler.”

Jones went on to say: “Tyler is a great fella. He is a young boy still and he probably can’t believe what is happening to him at the moment.

“From playing on the right wing in the Junior World Cup, 18 months later he’s now maybe going to be given the responsibility of fronting up in that 13 shirt for the national side in the quarter final of a Rugby World Cup.

“It’s fantastic. We have backed him here as a young man and I am sure it is just a matter of time before we get payback.

“He has got a big future and there is so much more to see in Tyler.”
