The 28-year-old prop has made over 100 appearances for the region since he joined in 2010. Way made his first appearance for the Region when he came on as a replacement against Gloucester in a LV=Cup pool match.

Swindon born Way played for Pontypool, Blackwood and Newport before joining the Dragons.

Announcing his retirement, Way commented: “It’s very disappointing that I have been forced to retire from rugby.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity and the experiences I have been given during my time at the Region as it’s something that not many people get to do.

“I would like to thank my family and friends as well as the Dragons staff who have given me great support throughout this difficult time. I also want to thank all of the loyal fans that have made Rodney Parade such a fantastic place to play at.

“This year the squad are looking really promising especially looking at the youngsters coming through. I wish everyone involved at the Dragons the very best and a good season.”

Director of Rugby, Lyn Jones added: “This is a tragic loss for us and Dan so close to the new season. We are all devastated for him.

“Dan has been a late developer growing from match to match; his shoulder injury became all too apparent in the last 6 weeks of the season.

“He has made a wise choice for his future health and we all wish him well.”
