Friends of Newport Rugby (FoNR) have announced that the money they have raised has exceeded £250,000 since being created 10 years ago.

The Trust, run entirely by volunteers, raised £60,000 of this figure within the previous 2 years and all money raised is used to support Newport RFC, facilities at Rodney Parade and rugby in and around the city of Newport.

This special sum has been raised through initiatives run by Trust, which include the monthly Bullion Draw, the annual Beer Festival at Rodney Parade and kind donations from the public.

The money goes towards variety of things which benefit the club, such as team radios, analysis software and floodlights for the training area.

The Trust also contributes towards many community initiatives, most notably the academy at Newport High School and sponsoring local age grade and youth teams in and around the city.

FoNR volunteers recently handed over a cheque for over £15,000 to Rodney Parade CEO Stuart Davies and Newport RFC Head Coach Craig Warlow. This was money raised by volunteers through various sponsorship activities throughout the season.

Secretary Kevin Jarvis said: “It has taken some years to build up momentum but FoNR are now a crucial part of the Rodney Parade organization providing both financial and volunteer help.

“The work we do is very much appreciated by the board and management and we hope to be able to further increase our efforts if more supporters back us and get involved.”

FoNR Trust is a democratic, not-for-profit fund-raising organisation of supporters, committed to strengthening the voice of supporters in the decision making process at Newport RFC and strengthening the links between the club and its supporters and the community it serves.
The Trust welcomes any contribution, financially or otherwise, and are always seeking volunteers. More information can be found at www.fonr.co.uk
