Newport Gwent Dragons V Munster - Community Diary

Newport Gwent Dragons Community Volunteer Ryan Robinson looks ahead to Sunday’s Community Activity at Rodney Parade.

By Ryan Robinson

Following the bitter disappointment of the adverse weather conditions forcing us to cancel or change our planned pre-match activities against Ulster and the Sale Sharks, the community department of Mike Sage, Janice Chappell and Phil James are delighted to announce that these activities will be available at Sunday's match.

Further to that, the new WFAC Family Zone will be in operation for supporters to use this weekend. The marquee, which trialled at the friendly fixture against Scarlets, will now become a permanent fixture for Dragons’ home matches after months of preparation.

The events and activities will start in ample time before the match so supporters are encouraged to come along and support the facility.

As well all the family games and tasks, the fun zone that had been housed beneath the Bisley Stand will also make the move to the Family Zone. This will include stalls set up by the Dreams and Wishes foundation, a wonderful cause that brings delight to lots of children’s lives.

There will as usual be things going on inside the stadium during the match. The half time kicking competition sponsored by the Monmouthshire Building Society has brought fantastic results from the supporters as they vie to win the £50 prize on the day, but most importantly a chance to enter the final at the Dragon’s last home match of the season to win even more prizes including a free season ticket for the 2016/17 campaign. There are still lots of opportunities to enter this spectacular competition so if you would like to be considered for the remaining home fixtures this season then please email mike.sage@rodneyparadeltd.com for more information. You may also want to follow the community team’s twitter page @NGDCommunity for lots of exciting announcements throughout the season.

Something which I have become strongly involved in since becoming a Community Volunteer is the coordination of the Guard of Honour for every home match and I am delighted to announce that the teams cheering the Dragons to success this week are representatives from Bedwas RFC, Forgeside RFC as well as pupils from Eveswell School. The players have commented on how much they appreciate the support of the local teams on the pitch before the game so could you all please give the teams and Guard of Honour participants a cheer as they enter the field. The Guard of Honour is proudly sponsored by Dreams and Wishes and Wilko and we must thank them for their continued support.

On behalf of the community I would like to express my thanks to all the sponsors of the community team who make it possible to put on these events and we hope this relationship flourishes in the coming seasons. The Community team is always looking for as much help as they can get. If you are interested in helping us and the Dragons on a matchday then come along and have a chat with Mike Sage who will be delighted to see you!
