Dragons partnership helps young people

In Wales, The Prince’s Trust Cymru has teamed up with the Newport Gwent Dragons to run another ‘Get Started with Rugby’ programme.

This programme is designed to engage and develop unemployed young people through the sport, by developing skills to help them enter the world of work.

The programme, which will take place at Parc Prison for a week commencing 24th November. It comprises a week of activities and challenges such as coaching sessions, first aid training, tag leader training and other team-building activities. At the end of the week, participants show increased motivation and confidence and improved teamwork, reliability and communication skills. 

Community Manager at the Newport Gwent Dragons, Mike Sage said: “We are really pleased to be working with The Prince’s Trust and believe that this programme gives young people a fantastic opportunity to develop skills and confidence as well as employability skills for the future.

“The programme is informative, action-packed and fun and will increase their self-esteem. Teamwork is essential in rugby and they will learn to build relationships with others and work as part of a team which will bode for to make a positive impact in society in the future.”

The Prince’s Trust helps change young lives. The Trust works with young people who have struggled at school, have been in care, are long-term unemployed or have been in trouble with the law. In Wales, 3,500 young people are supported each year through its programmes. More than three in four young people supported by The Trust move into work, education or training.
