Deighton on the Regional Road

Under the generous sponsorship of Tata steel the Community activities have been working their magic throughout most of the regional areas.

Community News | 14/10/2013

Last week it reached Deighton school of Tredegar, most of whom had not been to the Dragons or knew many of the players. That was soon rectified and now the Dragons have a whole new crowd of avid supporters for the regional team.

Firstly Mike, via many dodgy shouts on his sat-nav visited the school and delivered one of his world famous Gateway sporting sessions which thrilled the kids and left them wanting more. That was produced two days later when the pupils made the journey to Rodney Parade and had a thrilling day on the Second Half educational programme during which they met Dragons star Sam Parry and quickly became firm fans of the young hooker.

Finally, to top off a magnificent week they returned to watch the Dragons victory over Zebre and they fully played their part with their magnificent support and flag waving.

Class teacher Miss Lewis was thrilled by the reaction by her class, “They have enjoyed every single minute of their experience with the Dragons and we are all going to become regular visitors to Rodney Parade” she smiled, “I have added some of the kids work just for you to see the type of impact you have had on our school, which I might add is now a huge base as a centre of Sam Parry support!”

Here is an example of the enthusiastic responses the pupils made,

Dear Newport Gwent Dragons,
I‘m writing to you to say a huge thank you for letting us interview one of the fantastic players, Sam Parry, and a tour around the phenomenal stadium. We all had an amazing time.

Firstly, I’d like to thank the wonderful Mr James for showing us around the stadium, taking us into the pongy changing room where he showed us a fantastic video. He is the most humorous and interesting person I know. We were lucky enough to see where they get interviewed. It’s awesome! (Only joking it’s only a piece of card on a wall ha-ha!)

Now it’s down to Mr Sage. Thank you for letting us see the first player Dan Way as a surprise and telling us the player’s diet. Then you showed us the gym. It smelt like old sweat. (YUK!) You showed us the exercises that they use. We all had a fun time doing high knees!

Finally, I’d like to thank the one and only Sam Parry, for answering all of our questions, giving us autographs and having pictures with us. (Don’t tell anyone but you’re my screensaver!)

Thank you again, it was a brill day!
