Would you pay £1 for a London Underground Station?

The three railway workers from Aberystwyth and Wolverhampton that tackled the Tube Challenge on the 5th November want to say thanks to the Dragons for their support in raising the profile of the event

They spent 19 gruelling hours travelling to all four corners of the Underground system to raise money for charity.

Mike Broom (aka Broomster), Sion Jones and Chris Harvey set out from a hotel near Amersham before 5am. They took the fact that their cab driver got a speeding ticket as a good omen!

Squashed in with understandably miserable commuters, the first half of the day went well, with a good completion on the cards. Time was saved by having food delivered by friends Gary and Nick at strategic points, and the desperate decision to use the ladies loo on one occasion - after checking the coast was clear of course (the gents was on another platform).

As the day progressed and tiredness set in, a series of ‘ooops’ moments derailed them (pardon the pun); signal failure at Earl’s Court, a slight accidental doubling-back, but worst of all a tube driver answering the call of nature at one station all had the knock on effect of leaving the dynamic trio outside a terminus just as a bus was passing. They jumped on that thinking it would be quicker than walking between stations. It wasn’t. They missed the vital last connecting tram by 2 seconds meaning they missed out on the last train to Heathrow Terminal 4. They finally finished after 1am, completing a heartbreaking 269 of the 270 stations. I think the saying goes, ‘#gutted’.

So would you give a pound for a tube station? The old adage applies that if just 1500 people in Wales gave a pound, it would fund one vital life saving mission by the Wales Air Ambulance. If 3,000 gave a pound… well, you know the rest. To donate text 70070 followed by TUBE741 for Singleton and FGDM951 for Wales Air Ambulance. Thanks again to the Rodney Parade faithful for their support.
