Dragons v London Wasps Match Report

Wingers Matthew Pewtner and Ashton Hewitt cross for tries in the Newport Gwent Dragons victory over London Wasps in the LV=Cup.

Both of the Dragons young guns crossed for a try in each half at Rodney Parade.

A strong attack by the Dragons in the first half led by lively full-back Rhys Jones earned a penalty for the home side, which the full-back dispatched from in front of the posts for the Dragons to take a 6-3 lead.

The Dragons conceded another penalty in the scrum on the half-hour as a strong driving maul from the resulting lineout enabled hooker Neil Cochrane to crash over for the first try of the match.

The home team did not have to wait long for a reply as within three minutes of the Wasps score Matthew Pewtner went down in the corner for the Welsh region. Rhys Jones picked up the loose ball after the Wasps backs failed to deal with a bouncing ball and Pewtner finished well. A great conversion from the corner by full-back Rhys Jones made it 13-8 to the dragons at half-time.

Full-back Rhys Jones kicked ten points with the boots, including two penalties and two conversions for a young Dragons side. The mixture of academy talent and first players managed to get the regional team the win against Wasps.
