PRYDIE STARS AS U20s MAKE SEMIS

New signing Tom Prydie starred in a magnificent Wales performance which saw them thrash Samoa 74-3 and book their place in the semi-finals of the Junior World Championship

New signing Tom Prydie starred in a magnificent Wales performance which saw them thrash Samoa 74-3 and book their place in the semi-finals of the Junior World Championship for the first time in 4 years.

Tom contributed 29 points which included a try either side of half time, converting 8 out of the 11 tries and adding a penalty. Fellow Dragon Ieuan Jones also scored a try in the rout after he came on as a substitute alongside Jack Dixon and Jonathan Evans.

Wales produced a consummate performance where rock solid defence was married with a lethal finishing prowess which Samoa had no answer for.

Wales had one foot in the semi-final at halftime, leading 25-3 having crossed for four tries but went on to rack up a further 7 in the second half.

They will face New Zealand once again in the semi-finals at Newlands in Cape Town on 17 June.

Wales U20 head coach Danny Wilson: "I'm extremely proud of the players. It was a game we knew could be a potential banana skin and it was important that we went out and performed.

"We did that and I think we performed with varied rugby as well. We scored some great tries out wide which the backs finished well and we also had a dominant pack performance.

"We also got a number of players off the bench with good game time and they impressed as well. It was great from a squad point of view."
