Newport Gwent Dragons thrilled the Rodney Parade crowd yesterday with an inspired 28-15 win over Cardiff Blues, whilst off the pitch fans raised over £700 in a collection for former player Richard Parks and his 737 Challenge.

The Men of Gwent took to the field in the special white charity strip designed by Richard and Dragons’ kit sponsor Gilbert, and the players did Parksy proud displaying an intensity and desire right from kick off and throughout a cracking game of rugby.

Richard's parents Lee and Derek meet some of the Dragons players after the match

The awesome win over the Blues leaves Cardiff fighting for a place in the Magners League play-offs.

The match also saw Dragons wing Aled Brew create a slice of history. His 16th try of the season saw Brew break the record for the most tries by any player since Welsh rugby went regional.

Richard’s parents Lee and Derek were thrilled that the Dragons showed such support of Richard’s 737 Challenge, which is raising funds in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care, his mother Lee stated; “There has always been such amazing support for Richard at the Dragons and we were very proud to see the team running out in Richard’s shirts.  It was very special.  I know that he would have been incredibly proud and humbled by the support he had today and the news of their win and the way they played will inspire him on his quest to climb Mount Everest - the 7th leg of his challenge.  Thank you to all the fans at yesterday’s game and everyone at the Dragons”.
