GOMER DAVIES FOR WALES SEVENS

Rhodri joins Jevon Groves and Newport's Rhys Jones in Sevens Squad

Newport Gwent Dragons centre Rhodri Gomer Davies has been named in the Wales Sevens squad for the forthcoming stages of the IRB HSBC Sevens World Series, to be held in Dubai and South Africa this December.

He joins fellow Dragon and current Wales Sevens captain Jevon Groves in the squad, whilst Newport’s Rhys Jones is also included. Beside Rhodri, Owen Williams of the Blues is the other new cap.

Wales are in Pool A in both competitions. In Dubai, starting on December 3rd, they take on Samoa, Kenya and the Arabian Gulf in the pool stages, before facing Australia, Scotland and France in South Africa on December 10th.

Rhodri becomes part of the long, strong heritage of Sevens at Rodney Parade, and follows in the more recent footsteps of Dragons wing Aled Brew, who was part of the Wales team which won the Sevens World Cup in 2009, and Jevon, who captained Wales to the Plate semi-finals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

The Dragons congratulate Rhodri, Jevon and Rhys on their selection and hope they do the region and Wales proud in Dubai and South Africa.

Wales Sevens squad for Dubai (December 3 & 4), George, South Africa (December 10 & 11): Jevon Groves (captain, Dragons), Lee Rees (Scarlets), Rhys Jones (Newport), Gareth Davies (Cardiff), Tom Isaacs (Ospreys), Owen Williams (Blues), Rhodri Gomer-Davies (Dragons), Ifan Evans (Llandovery), Gavin Dacey (Pontypridd), Rhys Shellard (Cardiff), Richie Pugh (Scarlets), Aaron Shingler (Scarlets).
