GWENT DISTRICTS ROUND-UP

The Districts Clubs face their second round of matches this weekend, when Pontypridd Districts travel to a host of clubs across Gwent.

The Districts Clubs face their second round of matches this weekend, when Pontypridd Districts travel to a host of clubs across Gwent.

The Under 13s open up proceeding when they play at Blaenavon RFC (Sunday 11th – 11:00am KO). Pontypridd narrowly took both fixtures last season, but Gwent will be looking to build on an impressive victory against Caerphilly and make amends for last terms results.

The Under 14s follow soon after with a 3:00pm Kick off at Cwmbran RFC. Gwent have rung a number of changes to the side who defeated Caerphilly at Penallta, ensuring that everyone is kept on their toes and only performing to the best of their ability, at both matchday and training can secure their places.

The Under 12s play at the end of next week, (Friday 16) where Tredegar will host their encounter (7:15pm). After a narrow 12-7 defeat at the hands of Caerphilly in their first representative match together, the Under 12 side will be looking to build on some good work that has been happening over previous training sessions.

Dewar Shield Round-Up

All Dewar Shield Groups will be present at the Dragons match against Glasgow on Friday 16 October as they will be presented with New playing kits given by the Newport Gwent Dragons, though its straight back to business post-match as Blaenau Gwent face the long Journey west to Aberaeron RFC to face Ceredigion Schools U15s. With two wins from two, Blaenau Gwent will be looking to continue this run, and improve their form, before the stiffer challenges of Newport schools and Cardiff schools arise.

The tie of the round though must be the local derby at Pontypool Park, where Pontypool Schools welcome Newport Schools for the ‘All Gwent clash’. After a frustrating opening for Dale Burn’s troops, with an opening round defeat to Blaenau Gwent and a friendly defeat to a strong Rhondda outfit, Pontypool will be looking for the ‘Pooler’ spirit as they look to turn over a Newport Schools side who could potentially upset a few sides this term. Following a convincing opening round victory against North Wales, the same mistakes didn’t go unpunished against a formidable Cardiff Schools, who crossed for three tries in a ten minute spell. Having regained their composure, Gwent turned the tide in the second half, scoring three tries to one, ending in a 36-22 defeat.

Saturday 17 October
Pontypool Schools v Newport Schools, Pontypool Park – 11:00am KO
Ceredigion Schools v Blaenau Gwent Schools, Aberaeron RFC – 11:00am KO
