Lliswerry Junior School came to visit the Second Half last week – and in the process pushed the number of visitors to the scheme for this academic year over the 1,000 mark.

Support has been excellent for the project and Lliswerry were typical visitors, fully enjoying their day of learning and fun.

The two classes met and interviewed players James Harris and Ashley Smith, both of whom were very impressed by the courteous and polite way in which the pupils questioned them. “We are looking forward to reading their written reports as they seemed a lovely bunch,” said Ashley.

Indeed the pupils became fully involved in everything that the day brought including running skills with Mike Sage.

Education Officer Phil James said: “This is an extra element that has been added to the programme and is one the kids really respond to,” he said. “Mike’s enthusiasm brings out the best in them and
Lliswerry Junior School can be very proud of their pupils as they have been absolutely super and a credit to the school, their teachers, their parents and themselves. “

The kids left Rodney Parade with their loaves of Warburtons bread – a longstanding feature of the visit as Warburtons have been a major sponsor for the Second Half from its introduction over seven years ago – a host of memories and vowing to return to support their rugby heroes.
