NEW: Dragons Under18s Girls

The newly formed Dragons U18s Girls squad took part in a rugby festival at Llandovery last Sunday, competing against the Scarlets, Ospreys and Blues and with only three training sessions under their belts the squad were eager to demonstrate their skills.

Dragons 5 - 0 Scarlets

The first game was against the Scarlets was quite the opening game. Fern Dyer and Cerys Hale demonstrated good leadership skills with the pack driving them forward in scrums, rucks and mauls. Captain Paris Nicholas took advantage of a great scrum, picking up at the base to score the only try of the match, showing powerful running lines to cross over in the corner.

Dragons 0 - 5 Ospreys

The second game was against a well drilled and experienced Ospreys side. It was a hard, physical game, however the forwards knuckled down and dominated the scrums. Sam Pole replaced the injured prop Fern Dyer and Paige Portman took over as flyhalf.

Due to poor defence in the first half and a missed tackle, Ospreys scored the only try of the match. Defence was tightened in the second half and no further tries were conceeded.

In the final game the Dragons demonstrated excellent game awareness and a confidence that had grown in each match and they came into their own showing great commitment and attitude. The line outs went really well with Cerys Hale, May Lewis, and Amy Roberts jumping, lifted excellently by Cory Tourle, Jenni Scoble, Gemma

Bray, Sara Prosser, Jodie Gibbs and Morgan Goodenough. There were some great individual performances by Abbie Taylor, Cerys Hale, Alexia Evans, Aimee Williams and Paris Niccholas as well as a great team performance. All three tries were scored by centre Alexia Evans, involving a switch with Aimee Williams for the first try, then a good take from the kick off by Abbie Taulor, passed to winger Bryony Downes and then a great sprint by Alexia Evans to score her second try. For the third try, Alexia cut through the Blues pack showing aggressive running inside the Blues 22, her strength and power clearly demonstrated as she crossed over for the try which was duly converted by Aimee Williams.
