Andrew Harrison will captain a strong Bedwas RFC squad at the Men of Gwent Sevens at Rodney Parade on Saturday 2 August as they look for revenge against a Dragons Academy side that beat them to lift the trophy in the semi final at last year’s tournament.

The squad have been getting fired up for the tournament which will kick off their preseason campaign before their seasons begins away from home to Ebbw Vale in the Principality Premiership on Saturday 6 September 2008.

Bedwas have retained the majority of the 2007/08 squad to include Newport Gwent Dragons Adam Brown, James Harris, Jimmy Norris and Adam Hughes and have made new signings in hooker Lee Pierce from Pontypridd, outside-half Michael Thomas from Llantwit Fadre, Lee Humphreys from Cross Keys and Wales U20s and Dragons Academy youngster Ben Roberts.

Head Coach Steve Law said:

“The Men of Gwent Sevens is a fantastic tournament and the boys never fail to get fired up for the occasion that will kick start our preseason fixtures.

“The boys were unhappy to have missed out on the title last year, losing to the Dragons Academy, but are confident that they have what it takes to come away with the trophy this time round.

“We’ve announced a strong team who will look forward to and benefit from the contact and intensity of this great event before we meet Lydney at home, Merthyr away and Pertemps Bees in the last few weeks of the summer period.”

Tickets for the annual Uskmouth Power Men of Gwent Sevens tournament are on sale now via Rodney Parade Ticketline: 01633 674990 or from the Rodney Parade Ticket Office priced at £1 for children and £5 for adults.

The Dragons Academy, Ebbw Vale, Newport, Bedwas and others will take part in what will be a spectacular rugby occasion.

The tournament also includes a mini tag rugby competition and the popular ‘Meet the Dragons’ experience and promises to be an action packed day out for all the family with music, bouncy castles, face painting, fairground attractions, paint balling and the St David's Foundation charity raffle.

Newport Gwent Dragons event and community manager Mike Sage said,

“We’re excited about re-establishing a competitive but fun sevens tournament in Gwent and will be pulling out all the stops at this year’s event.

“The ticket prices have not changed since last year and we anticipate a huge response from the fans with tickets priced at just £1 for children and £5 for adults.”

The Bedwas RFC squad named for the tournament is as follows:

Brendon Lampitt, Paul Bowen, Phil Sargent, Lee Humphreys, Andrew Harrison ©,
James Pizey, Fionn McLoughlin, Nathan Hill, Adam Hughes, Michael Thomas
