Richard Parks promotes healthy lifestyle

Richard Parks recently promoted healthy living. The looks on the youngsters faces was a picture, anyone would have thought that it was Father Christmas in their classroom!

Dragons inspire next generation

This week Glan Usk Primary School focused on health and well-being. The children were given opportunities to take part in a variety of sports and learn about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. The highlight of the week was a visit from top Dragons player Richard Parks. Mrs White, coordinator of health and well being said, “I was thrilled that Richard took time out from his busy schedule to visit our pupils. They thoroughly enjoyed meeting him and I’m sure many would love to follow in his footsteps”.

Richard spoke to the children about his time as a Dragons player and answered some gruelling questions! He was also kind enough to sign autographs and have photos taken. Miss Moore, PE coordinator (and keen Dragons fan!) said, “The children were so excited about meeting one of their local sporting heroes. During the visit Luc Slocombe, a pupil in my class, wanted to know how to get the ball out of a scrum, as he wants to become a rugby player when he is older! This shows how Richard is clearly a role model to the children when it comes to promoting a healthy lifestyle”. Mrs Williams, Deputy Head teacher, agreed, “Richard really got the children thinking about relevant questions. They clearly felt inspired by him.”

Many of the children watch the Dragons play at Rodney Parade. Richard was kind enough to provide the school with some tickets to watch a forthcoming game. Mr Beecher, Head teacher of Glan Usk, places high importance on this type of partnership and feels, “Our links with the community are very important to us. It’s great to have the Dragons on our doorstep and especially to have players dropping in to meet the pupils”.
