Rugby Player Tackles Law

Professional rugby player Kieran Crawford temporarily hung up his rugby boots and donned a suit for a spell of work experience at Gwent solicitors Watkins & Gunn.

Professional rugby player Kieran Crawford temporarily hung up his rugby boots and donned a suit for a spell of work experience at Gwent solicitors Watkins & Gunn.

Kieran, from Newbridge, enjoys an accomplished career in rugby boasting both under-19 and under-21 caps for Wales, and has played for Newport Gwent Dragons since 2005.  Following a recent shoulder injury, Kieran took the opportunity to gain experience in an entirely different place of work.

Kieran graduated from the University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC) in 2006, gaining a degree in Sports and Leisure Management.  Looking beyond his time as a professional rugby player Kieran began considering his future career options, and decided to put his interest in law to the test.

Watkins & Gunn is a sponsor of Newport Gwent Dragons and a supporter of their initiatives in the community, having recently pledged money for school computers.  The firm was only too pleased for a member of the squad to visit the practice, with Kieran spending time with the criminal law team attending court visits and getting to know the day-to-day runnings of the department.

Sarah Williams, head of the criminal law team at Watkins & Gunn said, "Having a close affiliation with the Newport Gwent Dragons we were very happy to have Kieran visit the criminal law department.  He's really enjoyed his time here and is welcome to come back for more work experience – but we suspect he's got plenty more rugby days ahead of him yet!"

Kieran is equally as pleased with his visit, "My time at Watkins & Gunn has given me a real insight into the law profession.  At the moment my main objective is playing rugby for the Dragons, but after spending time with the staff here I feel I can make plans and look forward to my time after what will hopefully be a successful career in rugby".

Further information on the firm's legal services is available from Watkins & Gunn, Glantorfaen House, Hanbury Road, Pontypool, Torfaen, NP4 6XY, telephone 01495 762244 or by visiting the practice's website at www.watkinsandgunn.co.uk
