Dragons Community have teamed up with Dads Can Cymru to launch an exciting new partnership to help support the vital work of the male support service.
Dads Can Cymru – part of the successful Dads Can project and funded by the Lottery – helps fathers and father figures overcome challenges such as low confidence, mental ill health, relationship breakdown, access to children and negative lifestyle choices.
Dads Can Cymru operates across Newport and Monmouthshire utilising a coaching and mentoring approach through 1:2:1 and group work sessions, empowering dads to identify and resolve challenges they face.
Dragons have joined forces with the pioneering work of the project to help build on the existing network of support so individuals in need can share, learn, explore and process emotional issues.
Gareth Sullivan, Inclusion Officer at Dragons Rugby, said: “We’re delighted to have teamed up with Dads Can Cymru to support the innovative and vital support work they deliver across our region.
"The activation will range from 1:2:1 support, working with Dads groups, volunteering opportunities to family activities. It has been fantastic to learn about the work of Dads Can Cymru and now be in a position to fully support them.
"We understand the power of sport and will be utilising our players as role models to tackle subjects such as mental health, parental challenges, resilience, living with purpose, values, respect, accountability and communication."
The pioneering new partnership between Dragons Community and Dads Can Cymru will also see interactive technology and virtual support used to deliver workshops alongside physical activity sessions.
A spokesperson for Dads Can Cymru added: “This is a fantastic new opportunity for our project and will hopefully see use both create a new and exciting service for males across Gwent. Through our combined knowledge and experience working with males I truly believe that we can make a huge impact within the county.”
