Clark: Dragons is perfect place for me

29/10/2022

Centre Max Clark believes his move to Dragons has come at the perfect time in his career as he looks to really kick on in Wales.

After 13 years at Bath Rugby – and eight in the senior set-up - Clark made the move to the Men of Gwent at the end of last season.

The Bridgend-born centre has quickly settled into life in and already fallen for the big match atmosphere at Rodney Parade.

And as he prepares to face Zebre Parma in tonight’s BKT United Rugby Championship game on home soil, he has reflected on his new surroundings and the competition for places.

“It's fierce competition here and it only benefits you as a player, although sometimes you might not get as much game time as you'd want,” he said.

“You must take away the selection element because it's quite easy to get bogged down in that. Better players around you and more competition, it is only going to push you.

“Where I am at in my career, this is perfect for me with competition in every training session.

“That shows when you get your chance in the team, you want to prove why you should be there.

“The atmosphere at Rodney Parade has been second to none, I've loved every game even when we lost to the Sharks,” added Clark.

“For the heart rate, to come on at those points of the game it's nerve-racking.

“Putting the games to bed slightly earlier would be a lot easier on the heart rate but if that's the way it's got to be done in the last minute then so be it. It certainly adds something for the fans!”
