Wales unbeaten run ended

11/08/2019

Three Dragons featured at the home of English rugby but could not stop Wales’ first warm-up clash for the Rugby World Cup ending in a 33-19 defeat at Twickenham.

Aaron Wainwright and Ross Moriarty both started the big Sunday afternoon clash while hooker Elliot Dee was a second half replacement.

Warren Gatland’s side produced a battling second half comeback and scored tries through Gareth Davies, George North and Wyn Jones.

But it was not enough as the team’s 14-match winning run came to an end against an English side that were crucially quicker out of the blocks.

Early tries from Billy Vunipola and Joe Cokanasiga took them clear before Luke Cowan-Dickie scored on the stroke of half-time.

George Ford’s three conversions and three penalties did the rest of the damage for England as Wales, who lost Gareth Anscombe to a first-half injury, now look to the return clash at the Principality Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
