Dragons Look To The Future

With a break in fixtures now that the Heineken Cup pool matches have been completed the Dragons have organised two development fixtures

With a break in fixtures now that the Heineken Cup pool matches have been completed, the Dragons have organised two development fixtures in order to provide players returning from injury and squad members some much need game time. Also to be included are players from the region thereby providing an opportunity to show the coaches what options there are going forward for the remainder of this season and into next year.

The Dragons will play London Welsh at Rodney Parade on Monday 2nd February Kick Off 7.15 and the Ospreys at Llandarcy on Monday 16th February Kick Off 7.15pm.

Commenting on the fixtures Head Coach Paul Turner said:

“These games are vitally important to us for a variety of reasons. It gives us an opportunity to get players back match fit, to try out different options, as well as looking at players out of the comfort zone of Club Rugby. We are proud of the number of young players we have brought into Regional rugby from the academy and clubs in our Region and these matches will provide an opportunity for players to showcase their talents and allow us to see how they perform at the next level without any league points at stake.”

Leading the side will be Shaun Connor who helped coach the successful Dragons Under 20s team during the Autumn inter regional series of matches.
Players include:
Leon Andrews, Lloyd Burns, Jevon Groves - Cross Keys
Scott Williams, Tom Riley - Newport
Richard Powell - Newbridge
Owain Williams – Pontypridd
Jimmy Norris, Stuart McGuire, Adam Brown – Dragons Academy

Wales Under 20 or Wales Sevens Players have not been considered for the first match. Further players from Club sides will be considered for the second match against the Ospreys.

Entry to the match at Rodney Parade is free for season tickets holders and just £5 cash on turnstiles for general admission
